File layout definition

Only two files are required for our example system. These are defined through this option. This screen can be reached by entering 1 when selecting an option from the main menu. Files can be defined while processing any item.

The main file will be called F.BOOKINGS and will be given a short code of EG1. Once the details for the file EG1 have been filled in, the screen should look as shown in the following figure.

On entering Y at the O.K. prompt, the user will be taken into the file creation screen. For the purposes of this example the user should change the MOD of the DATA part of the file to a more suitable value such as 5.

The second file will be called F.ITEMS. It will be given a short code of EG2. This will contain the item unit cost information.

After filling in the details for EG2, the screen should look as follows:-

The user should accept the default values in the file creation screen by just pressing [RETURN] for all the prompts.

The user should use this option to familiarise themselves with the various function keys provided within PARADYME, those for moving around the screen and particularly those for inserting and deleting lines within a window.

Also note the use of the default CONV values of MD2 for amount fields and ZFI for the item ID to F.ITEMS.

The user should enter the notes and comments given for the files as this will get them into the habit of documenting their systems as they go along.
