Paradyme V4.0 - Manual

Entry of prompt definition

Conv

It is intended that for this field the user use the conversions that are normally associated with the ICONV and OCONV functions such as 'MD2' and 'D4'. The ICONV/OCONV functions are used to convert between a format suitable for input and one that can be used for output. These can be found in the BASIC manuals. However, for convenience a number of extra codes have been added to allow greater flexibility in processing inputs. These are detailed in Chapter 5 - File layout definition.

The conversion specified for the prompt will be applied before and after the input of a value for the prompt being defined. For instance, if the user wished to user the 'D4' conversion, this would take the value for the field and convert it from internal date format to external date format before displaying it on the screen. After inputting the value, the process is reversed.

A default value for the conversion field is inserted off the relevant file layout record. This value can be changed should the user wish to do so. It should be noted that the changed value is not written back to the file layout record.
