Multi Mode

This field enables you to specify whether the screen is required to support processing in the four modes of 'ADD', 'CHANGE', 'DELETE' or 'ENQUIRY'. This will involve the addition of extra validation. This addition involves checking that in 'ADD' mode that no record already exists for the given ID and for other modes that the record already exists for the given ID. It also modifies the control of the screen handling for 'DELETE' and 'ENQUIRY' mode in that no values can be changed, they can only be viewed. It also controls the file updating according to the mode selected by the user.

If you answer 'N' or just press [RETURN] to this field, then no modes will apply and the program will merely recall existing records (if any) and write back the record (or add a new record) under the key you specify. Essentially this option removes the concept of a special 'amendment' mode, allowing the user to key in both 'CHANGE' and 'ADD' mode simultaneously.
