Many terminals now support the graphics character set. The 'G' function is provided as an easy way to enter these codes into the screen.
After typing 'G', the system will then expect a numeric value in the range 0 to 9 or a '.'. This will indicate the graphics character to produce.
If the user looks at the numeric keypad, 1 to 9 form a grid. This grid can be used to translate from the number to the graphics character. This translation is shown below. The numbers are on the left and the graphics character is shown on the right

If the user types in 'g', i.e. the lowercase character, the graphics character
will be double lined. I.e. 5 would produce
