Attribute Name

This entry assigns a name to an attribute that appears on the record. The value in the ATT column next to the attribute name gives the attribute position within the record. It is also the name by which the fields will be referred to when defining prompts in option 5 of the main menu.

The name given here will become a variable in the generated program as well as the DICT item name on the file should option 11 (Create dictionary items) be used. Hence, care should be taken when choosing attribute names. Punctuation marks and embedded spaces, with the exception of '.', are not permitted. The usual rules for the makeup of variable names should be observed.

In addition, it would be advisable to choose meaningful names for attribute names , e.g. STOCK.CODE , STAFF.NUMBER , etc. This helps to make the resultant program and documentation more readable and easier to understand.

Within the attribute name entry, a number of other functions are available. These are as follow:-
