Table File Inverts |
As a part of almost every system, the user will end up creating what are known as table files. Essentially, this is static data, i.e. data that hardly changes, that is held in a record with a key. Then when the user wishes to enter a given value in a data field, they enter the code and not the associated data. An example would be a currency. For instance, the code GBP would refer to British pounds and CHF would refer to Swiss francs. This aids consistency with the data held on file which means searches, etc can be done more effectively.
However, the downside of this arrangement is that the user must know what the code is for the data they wish to enter. In the examples above, it would not be obvious that the user would need to enter CHF if they wish to specify Swiss francs for the entry.
To aid the user in such a situation, PARADYME can automatically insert a facility into generated routines to lookup what codes are valid for a given data field. This lookup allows the user to put in a part of the data for which they wish to know the code and the system will display all applicable records. In some cases the user can just enter a blank for the search fields and ALL the currently held records are displayed.
